The most intriguing concept in the digital world today is Crypto monetary policy. It merely refers to the manner in which a cryptocurrency regulates its supply, value and stability. In classical finance, the decisions about money are made by a central bank such as the Central Bank of Nigeria or Federal Reserve.
However, in the crypto world, numerous projects aim to eliminate human intervention and instead resort to algorithms to inform the way money is produced or destroyed. This new form of money management is termed as algorithmic control and it is altering the way we perceive the future of finance.
When I initially started learning about crypto monetary policy, I learned that the most important aspect of it is the rules embedded in the blockchain. These regulations determine the emission of new coins, inflation and the reaction of the system to the fluctuations of demand.
Indicatively, Bitcoin has a limited number of coins of 21 million. It is a decision made algorithmically. No human being can set up and print more Bitcoin. This rigid policy is used to cushion the currency value in the long run.
This idea is further extended to some other cryptocurrencies. They apply high level algorithms which increase or decrease the supply automatically depending on market conditions. In case the price is below the expected price the system decreases the supply to make the coin a great deal rarer.
In case of an increase in demand, the algorithm can be used to raise supply in order to stabilize it. This thought appears straightforward, yet it may be very potent. It demonstrates the use of the technology to substitute human judgment with clear and predictable regulations.
But there are problems with algorithmic control as well. We have observed algorithmic stablecoins that have failed since their formulas did not succeed when market pressure was on. This teaches me that despite computers having the ability to execute their instructions perfectly the real world is not predictable. An excellent crypto monetary policy should be properly designed, tested, and supported by high user trust.
The advantage of the algorithmic control is that no emotions, corruption, and human errors are present. All this is made transparent and equal. Any person will be able to verify the code and comprehend the working of the system. This will make people with increased confidence in the currency. It also empowers the users rather than central authorities.
To sum up, the discussion of crypto monetary policy in terms of an algorithmic control demonstrates the possibility of having a future where money is technologically and mathematically controlled rather than being determined by humans. I think that this concept will only expand and as I further my educational levels, I can envision the manner in which it can revolutionize the global finance in a very revolutionary manner.
