Tilapia has been exported to various countries in the world.

Tilapia commodities, which are popular with the mainstay products of Nila and Mujair fish, have been the mainstay commodities for aquaculture in Indonesia. The fish is a favorite, because so far it has advantages that other types of fish do not have. However, as time went on, currently the mainstay fish is being threatened, following the attack of the Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV) virus.
Director General of Aquaculture (DJPB) Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Slamet Soebjakto explained, as a superior commodity, Tilapia is known to have good resistance to water quality and disease. Not only that, the fish is also known to be adaptive to various environmental conditions around it.

"Not forgetting, this Tilapia can be efficient in forming high quality proteins from various organic materials, and has good growth ability and can be cultivated in fresh and brackish water," he explained recently.
Slamet said, currently his party is being aggressively promoting one variant of Tilapia, Salted Tilapia to the public and fish cultivators. The fish was chosen, because it has the advantage of being able to adapt to water with high sanitation such as brackish water.

These advantages, according to Slamet, make Salted Tilapia suitable to be developed in ponds that were previously used to carry out the cultivation of tiger shrimp or milkfish. Usually, farms for these commodities, the amount is quite extensive and has begun to experience a decline in quality.
With the ongoing campaign, Slamet is optimistic that the development of Tilapia in the future will be even better. At present, the production of these commodities in Indonesia continues to increase every year, with an increase in the average production of 17.98 percent per year. Meanwhile, the average value of production rose 24.91 percent per year.
Slamet added, in 2013 alone, Tilapia production had reached 914.78 thousand tons with a value reaching Rp10,698 trillion. This figure continued to rise to reach 1.084 million tons in 2015 and reached a production value of Rp21.26 trillion.

As one of the mainstay commodities of aquaculture products, Slamet explained that Tilapia had been exported to various countries in the world. Among these countries, Canada and the United States are listed as two countries that routinely receive Tilapia supplies from Indonesia.
"Meanwhile, from Europe, countries like Germany, the Netherlands, France and Belgium are the ones who usually get supplies. In addition, countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Australia are also importers of Indonesian Tilapia, "he said.
