Achieving beauty and respect among people occurs in two ways — on the one hand, through the real qualities and work abilities of a person, and on the other hand, through the external image or way of showing off. But when someone exaggerates unnecessarily, shows off too much, is arrogant or holds their head high — it often reduces the real value of a person. Because if there is no sincerity, honesty or work ability behind the external appearance, then the trust and respect for that person in society is completely lost.

Forms and examples of exaggeration

Exaggeration or show-off takes many forms — wearing expensive clothes and posing arrogantly, exaggerated display of achievements, excessive novelty on social media, exaggerating one’s wealth or relationships, or even trying to always establish oneself above others without sufficient reason. In the workplace, one can be seen talking big but not doing it; attracting people by showing off business assets; or presenting one’s position in a relationship with excessive importance. These behaviors may initially bring attention or respect, but in the long run It creates distrust and disconnection.

Why excess reduces the value of people - psychological and social aspects

1) Trust and faith are destroyed - people generally value honesty and sincerity. When someone shows off a lot but it is not reflected in their actions or character, others begin to perceive them as liars or hypocrites. Once trust is lost, it is difficult to regain it.

2) Relationships are weakened - arrogance creates distance. Humility and empathy are very important in friendship or cooperation; excessiveness does not create kinship, people move away.

3) Gratitude and human qualities are reduced - as a result of excessive showing off, people refine their inner gratitude, compassion and kindness, which deepens social status.

4) It hinders the formation of credible leadership - the status of a leader or influencer is firmly established not only in the form of words, but also in behavior. The image gained through showing off is seen as only a surface in the eyes of the public; if there are no results, the status of the leader is eroded.

Economic and professional results

Even if exaggeration brings personal financial benefits, it has a negative impact on business and career. Consumers or colleagues quickly understand whether an organization or individual's product/service has real value. If there are no genuine qualities, even if the first good review is received, such a business does not last long. When someone is given teamwork or responsibility in a professional environment, it is seen that an arrogant employee damages team relations, resulting in the disappearance of his official or social respect.

Personal psychological impact

The person who indulges in unnecessary exaggeration often feels a sense of insecurity or incompleteness inside. Trying to maintain external standards increases mental stress, anxiety, and self-doubt. People constantly act to hide their true identity, which leads to mental fatigue and depression in the long run.

Religious and moral aspects

Many religions and moral teachings have downplayed ego. Humility, gratitude, and good character are especially respected. Unnecessary exaggeration reduces a person's spiritual or moral value - because people are Not by big things, but by actions and lifestyle.

How to avoid exaggeration — Practical ways

1) Self-reflection — Regularly review your behavior and speech: Do I really have what I show?

2) Practice humility — Express small gratitude, share joy in the successes of others, and acknowledge your limitations.

3) Prioritize action — Show action instead of words; results speak for themselves.

4) Learn the right balance — Share your successes, avoid exaggeration.

5) Have reliable friends — Surround yourself with those who will honestly tell you your mistakes.

6) Increase self-esteem and self-confidence — Even if external things do not add self-esteem, developing your skills and character increases your true dignity

Exaggeration or show-off may temporarily attract people's attention or praise, but in the long run, it will It diminishes the true value—especially when there is a lack of sincerity and hard work behind the outward evidence. True respect in society comes through hard work, honesty, humility, and building relationships. So instead of wasting time chasing an outward image, strengthening your character and work is the path to enlightenment and lasting respect.
