Dear friends,

I hope you are all well and I am also well with your prayers and the mercy of Allah.

What is global warming, how does it affect and how to prevent it

Global warming: Effects and Prevention

Introduction

Global warming is one of the most serious environmental problems in the world today. It is a process of gradual increase in the temperature of the earth, which is mainly caused by excessive emission of greenhouse gases. Due to the destruction of the natural balance, biodiversity is under threat and is having a negative impact on human life. This problem raises questions not only about a country or region, but also about the existence of the entire human race. In this essay, we will discuss in detail what global warming is, how it is created, its effects and ways to prevent it.

What is global warming?

Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere. Although this warming is part of the natural process of the Earth, it is currently increasing at an unusually rapid rate due to various human activities. Since the Industrial Revolution, the burning of fossil fuels (such as coal, gas, petrol) has increased the amount of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and other greenhouse gases in the air. These gases absorb the sun's heat and re-radiate it, trapping it in the Earth's atmosphere, causing the temperature to continue to rise.

Causes of Global Warming

1. Burning fuel: The fossil fuels we use for electricity generation and vehicles emit large amounts of greenhouse gases.

2. Deforestation: Forests absorb carbon dioxide. When forests are destroyed, this gas remains in the air and increases the temperature.

3. Industry: Factories emit large amounts of gases that help increase the temperature of the atmosphere.

4. Plastic and waste: Burning plastic and accumulating inorganic waste produces methane gas, which is responsible for global warming.

5. Livestock: Methane gas is released from the digestion process of livestock, which is a significant source of greenhouse gases.

Impacts of global warming

1. Environmental impacts

Increasing temperatures: The increase in the average temperature of the earth has started melting ice, especially in the polar regions. This has resulted in rising sea levels.

Drought and floods: Some regions are experiencing excessive rainfall, while others are experiencing long-term droughts. This erratic weather is threatening agriculture and livelihoods.

2. Impact on biodiversity

Many animal and plant species are losing their habitats and are on the verge of extinction.

Marine biodiversity such as coral reefs is being destroyed due to warming and increasing acidity.

3. Impact on human life

Food crisis: Climate change is affecting agriculture, resulting in reduced food production.

Health problems: Heat stroke, dehydration, malaria and dengue are increasing due to excessive heat.

Refugee problem: If the sea level rises, coastal areas will be submerged, leaving millions of people homeless.

Ways to prevent global warming

1. Use of renewable energy

Using solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectricity, etc. will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This will also reduce environmental pollution.

2. Planting trees and protecting forests

Trees absorb carbon dioxide. Therefore, more trees should be planted and deforestation should be prevented.

3. Use of environmentally friendly vehicles

Using electric cars or bicycles and public transport uses less fuel, thus reducing gas emissions.

4. Recycling and recycling

Using less plastic and other waste, using recyclable products, and recycling are helpful in reducing global warming.

5. Awareness Raising and Education

Awareness should be created in schools, colleges, and the media about the importance of environmental protection. People should know that even their small daily activities can play a role in reducing global warming.

International Initiatives

1. Paris Agreement: In this agreement signed in 2015, almost all countries of the world have pledged to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

2. COP Conference (COP): Global decisions are taken at this conference held every year to prevent climate change.

3. United Nations Climate Change Framework (UNFCCC): Many initiatives have been taken under this organization to control greenhouse gases.

Global Warming in the Context of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is one of the countries most affected by global warming. If the sea level rises, the coastal areas of the southern region may be submerged. Crop production is being affected, and health risks are also increasing. Therefore, it is very important for Bangladesh to deal with this problem.

The government has already taken some effective steps such as building coastal dams, forming a climate fund, awareness programs, etc. However, effective change can be brought about at the individual level by raising awareness.

Global warming is a global threat that is affecting every person in every country. Everyone needs to work together to solve this problem. Along with government policies and decisions, responsible behavior of citizens is also very important. If we do not become aware now, it will be impossible to leave a habitable world for future generations. We need to take action now to save the environment.
