The relationship of the eyes with the mind
If you want to control the mind, you must control the eyes. The mind can be compared to the film of the camera by comparing the eye with the lens of the camera. What the camera lens sees becomes a picture in the film inside. In the same way, what is seen through the lens of the eye becomes a picture in the film of the mind. So if you want to keep the mind pure, you have to keep your eyes away from seeing unholy scenes.
The Qur'an instructs believers to lower their gaze as soon as they see it and to turn their eyes away from seeing it again. If you look at a woman other than the woman with whom marriage is not permissible, then the picture is drawn in your mind and that picture starts defiling the mind.
It is necessary to cultivate hatred in the mind towards any scene which is seen as offensive in the eyes of morality in the streets or in the newspapers and one should carefully guard one's eyes from it. Then it will be easier to maintain the purity of mind.
Keeping your eyes closed while reciting Tasbeeh or Zikr makes it easy to maintain concentration of mind. Because he shows the mind what the eye sees. It is makrooh to keep one's eyes closed at all times in prayer, so one should keep one's eyes closed and open one's eyes. It is permissible to keep one's eyes closed when one needs to focus one's mind on prayer. If you pray with your eyes closed all the time, you will not get eye training.
There are provisions for looking at different places in different stages of prayer so that the eyes are also trained to use according to the command of Allah and the way of the Prophet. The purpose of this training is to make the eyes capable of obeying the commandments of Allah and the way of the Messenger outside the prayers. Those who have the importance of maintaining the purity of the mind must try to control the eyes.
