Opening the summer with tropical vibes!
Look for the music video at the end of the post.
π Fun Facts:
β The song "La Isla Bonita" was originally offered to Michael Jackson for his "Bad" album, but he turned it down. Madonna rewrote the lyrics herself and turned it into a legendary hit. π΄
β San Pedro, which Madonna sings about, is a real town on Ambergris Caye island in Belize. At the time, Louise had never been there; she said the name just "came to her" (exactly as she sings: βLast night I dreamt of San Pedroβ). She captured the island vibe perfectly without ever stepping foot on it, making this island a true Mecca for Madonna fans.
Several hotels there have now taken the name 'La Isla Bonita'.πΉ
Interestingly, the music video itself was filmed in Los Angeles.
β After the "La Isla Bonita" music video was released, Madonna's red Spanish dress became a massive global trend in 1987, bringing Latino style into high fashion. π
This influence manifested in the immediate appearance of "Spanish" elements on the runways of giants like Christian Lacroix, who made ruffled skirts and Baroque aesthetics the foundation of his first Haute Couture collection that same year. Mass-market retailers worldwide were flooded with bolero jackets, corsets, and red artificial roses, which women began wearing as an everyday hair accessory. Madonnaβs "Gypsy Chic" look legitimized the combination of oversized gold hoop earrings with lace fabrics, a style previously considered far too bold for daytime wear.
Madonna (Louise) is 67 years old now (2026).
When I see that number, I can't help but think of my grandmother at that same age: a cozy home, a bit of a quiet life, conversations about the garden and all sorts of random nonsense. But then I look at Louise β sheβs still out there, making the whole world dance and keep talking about her latest antics.
The remix of "La Isla Bonita" that Iβm dropping this Friday, June 5th, is a bridge between the 1980s and the start of summer 2026. Iconic hits like this are the only real "time machines" we truly have. At the end of the day, leaving behind something "timeless" is one of the greatest values of being an artist.
Everything else fades away like cherry blossoms in the spring β time is relentless to us all, but music travels through eras.
