Immortal jellyfish...

Good Day Friends. Today was a wonderful day and my families and I enjoyed a walk along the embankment. I took a few photos of autumn beauty, but today I would like to show photos of marine life and tell you a little about them.

Jellyfish are aquatic multicellular animals that belong to the chirping type. The main feature of representatives of this type is the presence of so-called stinging cells that produce neurotoxins. In addition to a small cavity with poison, the cell has pointed spikes with a hollow thread. With their help, multicellular organisms hunt and defend themselves from enemies.

A jellyfish is a life form belonging to a variety of chirping Medusozoa, the life cycle of which consists in alternating two types of generations: asexual, represented by polyps, and sexual, represented by jellyfish proper.

In Oceanic and marine ecosystems, representatives of the medusozoa subtype are classified as second-order consumers. Their use is to filter water and purify it from various organic particles. Jellyfish also provide food for many species of Fish and marine animals. Their dome and tentacles often become a shelter for fry that hide from predators.

Jellyfish are distributed throughout the world's oceans. They live in both cold polar waters and warm waters of tropical seas. Most of them belong to pelagic organisms, but you can meet representatives of some varieties at a depth of up to 10 thousand meters.

The vast majority of jellyfish can live exclusively in salt water. There are also freshwater species that do not exceed a few centimeters in diameter. They are often used for keeping in aquariums.

Jellyfish are Coelenterates with a primitive food digestion system. The basis of the diet for small hydroid organisms is plankton. The diet of scyphoid jellyfish, due to the more complex digestive system and huge size, is relatively diverse. They eat fish eggs, fry, crustaceans, and sometimes small individuals of their subspecies.

Multicellular animals form the basis of the diet of moonfish and sea turtles. Despite the relatively low nutritional value, jelly-like domes are eaten with pleasure by many species of fish, birds and aquatic mammals. This popularity among marine life is explained by the fact that the extraction of jellyfish does not require large energy costs.

Did you know that there is a type of immortal jellyfish? So I found out about this only when I decided to look for information about jellyfish that I photographed on a walk along the embankment. It turns out that there is such a unique species - the immortal jellyfish (Turritopsis nutricula), after reproduction, representatives of this species do not die, but return to the polyp stage.

The cycle of transition between asexual and sexual generation lasts indefinitely, so theoretically it is a jellyfish that lives forever. There are many interesting and not yet fully explored wonders in nature.
