Hello friends!
Today I was at the premiere of the production in the Odessa Theater. I really liked what I saw. I took a few photos of the building itself and wanted to tell you interesting facts about the architectural significance of the Odessa Opera and ballet theater, which is famous throughout Europe.
The Odessa Opera House is famous primarily for its architecture, and its layout and technical data are not inferior to the best in Europe. The building itself is executed in the Viennese "Baroque" style, which was the main one in European art from the end of the 16th to the middle of the 18th century.
Above the facade stands a sculptural group depicting one of the muses — the patroness of art Melpomene.
She is sitting in a chariot drawn by four angry Panthers. This allegory illustrates the idea that only the power of art can subdue animal savagery.
On both sides of the inscription, the portico is crowned by two sculptures representing music and dance
Near the Central entrance, on high plinths, there are two sculptural groups representing Comedy and Tragedy: on the left-a scene from the tragedy of Euripides "Hippolytus", on the right — an episode from the Comedy of Aristophanes"Birds".
If you visit the Opera house, you will definitely see a mirror under which a symbolic key was immured in 1887, given by the architect of the new theater building Ferdinand Felner to the mayor Gregory Marazli. And they say that if you quickly run your eyes over the figures of all the angels of the tier, you can see how they dance.
For the first time in Odessa, electricity was used to light the theater, for which an AC power plant was built. For the first time electric light bulbs flashed in Odessa in 1887, on the opening day of the theater.
We recommend that you visit the Odessa theater, admire its architecture, enjoy the beautiful music and masterful performance of artists, most of whom are people's artists of Ukraine.
Of course, such a landmark as the Opera house has its own legends.
It is said that a European artist stabbed his partner on the stage right during the performance. After that, employees of the theater allegedly heard the steps and crying of the actress.
They also say that the Ghost of the famous Odessa thief Yaponchik visits the theater. It is known that he was a fan of art.
And yet, in the Odessa Opera house believe that if you look at yourself for a few minutes in a six-meter mirror located at the end of the English stairs, you will age three years later.
