A suicide bomb attack took place near the entrance of the Russian Embassy in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said that two employees of the embassy died.
They said that there were also general Afghan casualties in Monday's attack.
"On September 5 at 10:50 a.m. local time in Kabul, a terrorist detonated an explosive device near the entrance to the consular section of the Russian Embassy there," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"In addition to the death of two employees there, the nearby Afghan citizens were also injured. The embassy is in contact with the Afghan security services. The security department has started an investigation into the incident."
The identity of the embassy personnel who were attacked is not clear. Russia's state-run RIA News earlier reported that a diplomat and an embassy guard were injured in the attack.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack. Kabul police say a suicide bomber targeted the embassy. But he was shot as he came forward to attack. This caused the explosion of explosives.
Few countries have diplomatic missions in Afghanistan since the Taliban seized power in August last year.
Russia does not officially recognize the Taliban government. However, the two sides have continued to discuss the purchase of some goods from Moscow, such as wheat, oil, and gas for Afghans.
