Even if it's a rental home, a small change can make the house look new. These five tasks can be done in a day without drilling and on a low budget, and can be easily removed if necessary.
What you'll need (basic kit): Tape measure, screwdriver set, utility knife, microfiber cloth, alcohol/cleaner, level app (on your phone), a few commands/peel-and-stick hooks.
1. Organize the entryway
Install 2-3 sticky hooks next to the door to hang keys/bags, and hang a small mirror. Placing a thin doormat inside will reduce dust and make the house look cleaner.
2. Change the lighting to create a mood
Getting a warm-white LED bulb or plug-in lamp will instantly make the room look softer. Installing USB LED strips under the bed or behind the TV creates an ambient glow without leaving any marks on the walls.
3. Storage without drilling into the wall
Over-the-door organizers, tension rods (on the kitchen sink/bathroom), and stick-on small shelves will provide extra storage space. Don't forget to stick to the weight limit, not heavy items.
4. Kitchen refresh
Cabinet knobs/handles are easy to replace. Just unscrew the old ones and install the new ones (measure accordingly). Installing a peel-and-stick backsplash behind the sink also makes cleaning easier.
5. Room texture upgrade
You can do an accent wall with peel-and-stick wallpaper; otherwise, just a cushion cover/throw, a light rug, and 2-3 indoor plants will change the look.
Tips and safety
Clean and dry the surface before applying anything; turn off any electrical appliances; Always follow the manufacturer's weight limit for heavy items. Take pictures of the beginning and end to stay motivated and to make it easier to return to the previous state when you leave.
