Messi can leave Barcelona transfer free this summer. Yes, you hear that right. In the contract between Messi and Barcelona is stated that Messi, by many considered as the GOAT, is allowed to leave Barcelona transfer free. According to Gazzetta Dell Sport, he only needs to give Barcelona a month notice if he wishes to depart. It’s still to be seen if this is to happen though.
Messi spent his first year at Barcelona at the age of 13. He got recruited by Barcelona at a young age for of his exceptional talent, while suffering physical conditions with a lack of natural growth hormone. When recruiting Messi, Barcelona agreed to financially support Messi for the growth hormone he needed. It turned out that this move was maybe one of the best moves that Barcelona has ever made. Through the years, Messi has proven to be extremely valuable to the club.
Now, rumors have been going around that the top English clubs are vying for his signature. But signing Messi will not be easy as it will be hard for many clubs to meet his financial demands. Currently, Messi is earning a staggering 40 million Euro a year, which is the highest in the football industry.
Manchester City is cited to be the number one contender for the GOAT’s signature. Messi had a history working with Pep Guardiola when Pep was still at Barcelona. Playing together with Iniesta and Xavi, they won 2 Champions leagues and multiple La Liga titles. The team is by many cited as one of the greatest football teams in history with their iconic TIKI-TAKA playing style.
