DROP YOUR LOAD

DROP YOUR LOAD

Mama Tisha, my paternal grandmother was a story teller.

She loved to gathered the kids in the evenings and tell wonderful stories. Apart from helping her pass knowledge to the next generation, I believe she did this to help us learn.

Most of her stories carried hidden moral lessons that only careful examination could expose.

She once told us a story I couldn’t help but see as insane. I thought about it but couldn’t get why she told this until today, 23 years later.

This man, John was traveling via his car. He came upon a man who was equally traveling the same route, with a very big bag, but on foot. He thought it wise to help.

This man entered the car with his bag in his hands. He refused to lay it down. He still carried it on his laps and sweated.

John requested he put it in the trunk but he refused. He carried it the whole journey which lasted more than 6 hours.

The end.

I didn’t get the lesson behind this story until today.

A good number of us today are like this man. We’re carrying  very heavy bags and burdens on this journey of life. Even when someone asks to help lift them, we  refuse, perhaps out of ignorance.

We have good jobs but we ain’t progressing cos’  there are things we can’t let go of. There are people who have offended us that we can’t forgive. So we’re suffering, even though we have every thing to enjoy.

We carry very heavy loads and so we can’t move very fast as we should.

We must learn to drop all loads.

We can do better.
