The African continental football fiesta delayed playoff because of Covid-19 entered its Round of 16 today January 23, 2022. The tournament hosted by Cameroon kicked off on January 6 and is billed to continue till February 6. There were notable surprises during the group stage that saw 24 African countries participating.
First, the defending champion Algeria which was in Group E along with Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone failed to qualify. After three matches, they were eliminated with only a point.
Second, Ghana which was tipped as a potential winner also failed to qualify from Group C. Their exit was sealed when a seeming underdog, so they boosted, sent them off the remaining part of the competition with a 3-2 victory.
Third, Tunisia, another favourite had soccer misfortunes during their Group F matches. They suffered two losses by Mali and Gambia. Fortunately, they made it to the Group of 16 as one of the four third best teams. Who knows, they can make a comeback and register additional surprises which are expected.

At this stage, the tournament proper begins. Watch out as elimination of teams and nations begins. The unfolding matches will lead to the Final on February 6, 2022.
