If you are a martial art instructor, people ask you different questions about self-defense. That's great. When there is a question, you will always find an answer. If someone asks you what to do when someone is about to attack you.

The answer is, try your best to avoid the situation. And again the answer is, don't just wait, attack the attacker first. The question is the same, but we have two different answers. The answer is completely the opposite.
Gary Vee once said he does not care what you think about him. Again he said he cares what every single of you think about him. It is like pulling from the opposite direction, and you can make the decision based on the situation.
When you fight, you do not fight to have some fun or show your skills or prove that you can beat those guys easily, and there is nothing they can do about it. Someone might have different opinions about something, and that's absolutely okay. But when they come to beat you and your life is in danger, you have the right to defend yourself.
If the attacker is going to attack with a stick or knife or kick and punch you, the distance between you and the attacker is very important. Keep a distance between you and your attacker. In case he is about to attack you, he has to move forward, you can see that and have more time to defend yourself.
You can kick the attackers. You can do that from the kicking range. If he gets close to you, you can punch, do palm strike, hammer fist, elbow strike and knee charge. How you are going to attack, it is up to you, and it depends on where the attacker is.
Use reasonable force to defend yourself. You hurt the attacker to protect yourself, not to kill him. Call the police as soon as you can. They can take care of the situation.
