Real Madrid threatens to boycott matches if 72-hour break is not given

Real Madrid won the match. Kylian Mbappe scored twice to beat Villarreal 2-1 on their own soil. The victory returned the current champions to the top of the La Liga points table. However, after the game, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his annoyance about the match against Villarreal.

Not only was he annoyed, he even threatened. Real had to play against Villarreal within three days of playing against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The Real Madrid coach said that this is the end. If there is no 72-hour break between the two matches, his team will boycott the match.

The second leg of the Champions League last 16 between Real and Atletico Madrid started at 9 pm local time on Wednesday. The game continued for another 30 minutes after the scheduled 90 minutes. There were two breaks along with the two-hour game. Then the match went to a tiebreaker and the game ended at midnight.

Real Madrid's next match starts at 6:30 local time on Saturday. That is, in less than 72 hours. Real Madrid is upset that such a tight schedule puts more pressure on the players. Before the match against Villarreal started yesterday, the club's TV channel said that Real Madrid would seek the help of football's governing body FIFA with the tight schedule. So that something like this does not happen again.

When the Real Madrid coach came to the press conference after the match, he was asked about it. Outlining the club's position, he said, "Today is the last time I played in 72 hours. If you don't give me 72 hours of rest, I will not play again. We have asked La Liga twice to change the time of the match. But they did nothing. This is the last time."

When asked if Real would really not play if there was no 72-hour break, he said, "No, I will not play at all."
