Everton win their first Premier League game of the season to move up to 13th; West Ham remain in the relegation zone after another frustrating performance in the Premier League; Neal Maupay off the mark in Everton colours following move from Brighton.
Neal Maupay opened his Everton account with a half-volley from just inside the area in front of the Gwladys Street End (53) to the delight of the home crowd, who had endured a drab first half.
There was a scare for Everton as West Ham substitute Said Benrahma's deflected left-foot shot struck the post in the second half, but they held on for consecutive league clean sheets for the first time in over a year. The toffees will go on international break in great enthusiasm and confidence.
However, West Ham produced another frustrating performance as they struggled to keep up with Everton's energy following Thursday night's 3-2 win over Danish side Silkeborg in the Europa Conference League and remain 18th in the table.
