- Etiquette of friendship

The meaning of friendship is very broad. Almost all people in our society are friends with someone or the other. From daily observations and study of history, it is clear that many people have been successful in this world and engaged in good deeds in the hereafter because of good friends. There is no dearth of those who have gone on the path of ruin in this world and the hereafter because of bad friends. What are the requirements of friendship in Islamic society? In this regard, the saying of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) should be kept in mind: "A man follows the religion of his friend, so each one of you should see who he is befriending." Hadith: 7399). Hazrat Abdullah bin Masoud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: “Be friendship for Allah, enmity for Allah, love for Allah and hatred for Allah.” |

Friendship and companionship should always be with those who are good, righteous and follow the rules of the Qur'an and Sunnah, because companionship has an effect. The saying of Mustafa ﷺ is: “The example of a good and bad companion is like a person who carries musk and blows a furnace. And the one who smokes the furnace will either burn your clothes or you will smell it. (Muslim, p. 1084, Hadith 6692)

Friendship with infidels and polytheists and Quranic teachings: Befriending infidels is prohibited in the Holy Quran and it has been clearly mentioned in many places that do not make infidels your friends. In the Holy Qur'an there is a divine decree: "O you who believe! Do not take as your friends those who make your religion a laughingstock and a sport, from among those who were given the Book before you, and do not take as friends the disbelievers, and fear Allah, provided you (really) Have faith” (Al-Maida: 57)

After loving Allah and His Messenger, it is necessary to establish love for the friends of Allah and enmity and hatred for His enemies. Therefore, one of the most important rules on which the Islamic faith is based is this: Every Muslim who accepts this pure belief should maintain friendship with those who believe in this belief and maintain enmity with those who do not believe and it is a Shariah duty that every person should love Tawheed and maintain a relationship of friendship with it. Stay away from polytheists.

It is said in the Holy Qur'an: "O you who believe! Do not make the Jews and the Christians friends, they are friends of each other, and whoever among you makes them friends will surely be one of them. He does not guide" (Al-Ma'idah: 51). This blessed verse is an argument on the sanctity and prohibition of establishing friendship and relationship with the People of the Book in particular.
---
Allah Ta'ala has also forbidden the friendship of such infidels to Muslims who are very close in terms of blood relation and relationship. Almighty says: "O you who believe! Do not befriend your fathers (grandfathers) and brothers if they love disbelief over faith, and whoever among you befriends them, those are the wrongdoers” (At-Tawbah: 23).
---
At another place in the Holy Qur'an, Allah Almighty says: "You will never find those who believe in Allah and the Last Day befriending a person who has enmity with Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him). They are their fathers (and grandfathers) or their sons (and grandsons) or their brothers or their close relatives. (Al-Mujadalah: 22)

Friendship with Muslim believers and Quranic teachings: Just as Allah has forbidden friendship with infidels and enemies of Islamic faith, in the same way, he has made it necessary to establish friendship and love with Muslims (believers). Thus the Almighty says: "Surely your friend is Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and (along with) those who believe, who establish prayer and pay alms, and those who bow down (humbly before Allah)." (Al-Maida: 55).
---
The basis of friendship is love: The basis of friendship is passion and every relationship is based on love in some respect. Depending on the nature of the relationship, we attribute this love to different titles. For example, sometimes this love is called mother, sometimes father, sometimes sister, sometimes brother, sometimes son, sometimes daughter, sometimes wife, sometimes husband, because there are countless titles of love. According to each title, the limits, conditions, rights, duties and manners of love are different.
---
Like the titles of love, friendship is also a pure title in which, like the passion of love, the boundaries, conditions and manners are separate with respect to its title. However, our mental confusion can tarnish the purity of this friendship, otherwise friendship is the name of helping each other to survive in life. Apart from this, the wider the circle of friends, the more different points of view a person will be aware of regarding the facts and teachings of life. This matter will ultimately lead to expansion in thinking and gentleness and compassion in nature. Man also gets rid of his narrow-mindedness if he has a positive outlook on life so that he can benefit from the thoughts and ideas of others. Etiquette of friendship: A person can be called a good friend because of these few virtues / manners mentioned below
